Some wedding days feel like a perfect reflection of the couple themselves, and Brandon and Megan's June wedding at Black Barn Wedding Venue near Edmonton was exactly that—relaxed, meaningful, adventurous, and full of genuine connection.
Surrounded by their closest family and friends who traveled from across Alberta and neighboring provinces, Brandon and Megan celebrated the beginning of their next chapter together in a way that felt completely true to who they are. Their wedding day was focused on spending quality time with the people they love most, soaking in every moment, and creating memories that would last long after the farewell sparklers. This couple's Black Barn wedding was everything they hoped it could be from the initial planning stages.
One of the things I love most about photographing weddings at Black Barn is the incredible variety of locations available right on the property. From the charming bridal loft where Megan got ready with her bridesmaids, to the covered outdoor patio that provided the perfect backdrop for candid moments throughout the day, every corner of the venue offered something unique.
Before the ceremony, Brandon and Megan shared an emotional first look followed by private vows tucked away from the excitement of the day. It was one of those quiet moments that reminds you what weddings are really about. Just the two of them, taking a few minutes to reflect on the journey that brought them here and the future they are building together.
Adding an especially meaningful touch to the day, Brandon had recently become an RCMP officer and changed into his uniform following their first look and private vows. It was a proud moment that represented an important milestone in his life and career, and it made for some incredibly memorable portraits.
Throughout the afternoon, we explored the property together for portraits, making the most of everything Black Barn has to offer. The front of the barn provided a timeless backdrop, while the surrounding canola fields brought vibrant colour and that unmistakable Alberta summer feeling to their gallery. Everywhere we went, Brandon and Megan were completely at ease together—laughing, chatting, and enjoying the simple moments between the big events of the day.
Their easygoing personalities were evident in every aspect of the celebration. Rather than focusing on perfection, they focused on presence. Their wedding wasn't about putting on a show; it was about gathering the people who matter most and celebrating a love that feels effortless and genuine.
That adventurous spirit didn't stop with their wedding day, either. Shortly after saying "I do," Brandon and Megan planned to head out on an extended hiking and camping trip with their friends and dogs—a perfect honeymoon adventure for a couple who would rather spend their days exploring the outdoors than sitting still.
As the sun set over the beautiful property and the evening celebrations came to a close, guests gathered outside for a sparkler exit. With cheers, laughter, and glowing lights surrounding them, Brandon and Megan made their way through a tunnel of family and friends for a final dip kiss.
It was the perfect ending to a day that felt genuinely joyful from beginning to end. Traveling to Edmonton for this venue and for this couple was so worth it and I'll be coming back here as often as possible to shoot amazing weddings for amazing couples!
