How I Create

Stunning, Story-Driven Images

On Your Wedding Day

Photographing a wedding is one of the most rewarding—and challenging—tasks a photographer can take on. It’s a day filled with fast-moving moments, raw emotion, unpredictable lighting, and high expectations. To capture it beautifully, you need more than technical skill; you need intention, awareness, and storytelling vision. Here’s my approach to photographing a wedding in a way that feels natural, meaningful, and visually unforgettable.

1. Preparation

Preparation is the backbone of successful wedding photography. Connecting with my couple beforehand to understand their priorities: Are they emotional candid seekers or lovers of classic portraiture? Do they want lots of family photos or a more documentary approach? I offer a complimentary engagement session with every wedding package for this reason - I want to know you before I capture the most important day of your life! And trust me- you want to know and love your photographer before they show up and stand a few feet away from you for 8-12 hours on your wedding day.

I create a flexible shot list—key moments, must-have groupings, details—but I always allow room for spontaneity. Weddings rarely follow a perfect timeline and my scripted documentary approach fairs well for couples who want a natural day that feels like them, while nailing the dream images I know they will never forget.

2. I Scout Locations and Light

If possible, I always visit the venue in advance if possible. I identify where the best natural light will be throughout the day—soft window light for getting-ready photos, shaded outdoor areas for portraits, open spaces for capturing movement. Knowing my environment ensures I'm ready when moments unfold quickly. If I can’t scout beforehand, I do a ton of online research and always arrive early to walk the grounds with a creative eye.

3. I Tell the Story, I Don’t Just Take Pictures

The best wedding photos feel alive because they capture narrative as much as beauty. I search for micro-moments: a nervous glance before walking down the aisle, a tearful parent during the vows, laughter during the toasts. These are the emotional anchors that make my client's gallery feel personal and timeless. I shoot with two camera bodies with entirely differently lenses the whole day - getting both wide establishing shots and tight emotional frames to build a complete visual story.

4. i've Mastered the Art of Being Present Yet Invisible

A great wedding photographer knows when to step in—and when to disappear. I am directive during formal portraits so everyone feels confident and comfortable, but during the ceremony and reception, I melt into the background and observe you and your guests in their true form. I let genuine interactions unfold without interruption, which encourages authentic expression.

5. i am Prepared for Anything

I have backup gear: extra batteries, memory cards, lenses, flashes. Weather can shift, timelines can stretch, but my job is to adapt gracefully. I follow a strict routine when preparing for a wedding, and always pack a minimum of two extra bodies and a host of lenses because God forbid, I trip down a hill and smash my primary body and lenses. That's the thing with weddings - they only happen once, and yes- anything can happen. Being confident in my preparations allows me to complete the job while staying calm, creative, and ready for unexpected moments (or "disasters").

6. i Connect With the Couple—and the Celebration

The warmth and professionalism I bring with  me to every wedding day builds trust, and trust leads to natural, relaxed photos. Knowing how to read a room is a key part of my job - and adapting to changing situations throughout your day is something I am prepared for. I blend into the energy of the day, celebrate with the guests, and let the experience of your uniquely you wedding day lead my creativity in telling your love story.

Photography isn’t just documenting a wedding—it’s honoring a story. With preparation, intuition, and heart, I create images that will be cherished for a lifetime.

I can't wait to celebrate your love story with you!
