a june wedding day at the norland
Some wedding days feel like they were always meant to unfold exactly as they do. Rachel and Alistair's early June wedding at Norland Historic Estate in Lethbridge was one of those days.
After weeks of watching storm-filled forecasts and preparing for every weather possibility imaginable, the morning of their wedding arrived with something entirely different: sunshine, soft clouds, and a comfortable 19-degree day that felt tailor-made for an outdoor celebration.
Surrounded by fewer than 60 of their closest family members and friends, Rachel and Alistair celebrated a love story that began ten years ago with a successful Tinder date and grew into a decade of adventures, unwavering support, and a life built together.
A Love Story Ten Years in the Making
Rachel and Alistair's relationship is proof that sometimes the best things begin with a simple swipe.
Over the last ten years, they have built a life centered around adventure, laughter, and genuine partnership. Whether they're rock climbing, exploring new places, or spending time with their beloved dog Molly, they share a curiosity for life and a deep appreciation for experiencing it together.
Their wedding day reflected that same spirit—intentional, meaningful, and focused on the people they love most.
Families Gathering From Across the World
One of the most special parts of the day was seeing both families travel incredible distances to celebrate this marriage.
Alistair's family made the journey from Scotland, bringing with them cherished traditions and plenty of energy for the celebration. Rachel's family travelled from Quebec, adding another beautiful layer of culture and connection to the day.
Their ceremony beautifully reflected the joining of these families and backgrounds. Rachel and Alistair exchanged heartfelt vows in both English and French, ensuring every loved one present could fully share in the promises they were making to one another.
A Unique Ceremony at the Norland Historic Estate
While many couples choose the gazebo or front lawn at Norland Historic Estate for their ceremony location, Rachel and Alistair opted for something entirely their own.
The ceremony took place on the grand front steps of the historic estate, creating a stunning backdrop that perfectly complemented the intimate nature of the day. Guests gathered below as the couple exchanged vows framed by the timeless architecture of one of Lethbridge's most beautiful heritage venues.
The choice felt personal, elegant, and completely fitting for a couple who weren't interested in following tradition simply because most couples marry by the gazebo.
An Outdoor Garden Party Celebration
Following the ceremony, guests enjoyed a relaxed outdoor garden party reception on the estate grounds. Their custom champagne wall was filled with celebratory glasses and was a highlight of the cocktail hour they shared with their guests.
The atmosphere was warm and welcoming—exactly the kind of celebration Rachel and Alistair envisioned. Friends and family mingled beneath the June sky while enjoying a beautifully prepared 5 three course plated dinner by La Chefs.
With thoughtful details like their custom made macaroon guest favors from @byollia, beautiful garden themed decor which included hanging paper lanterns, and meaningful conversation filling the tables, the reception felt less like a formal event and more like a gathering of loved ones celebrating a truly special couple.
Scottish Dancing and Unforgettable Reception Memories
As the evening continued, Alistair's family shared a piece of their Scottish heritage by teaching guests traditional Scottish dancing. Guests of all ages joined in, laughing, learning, and creating memories together on the dance floor.
Watching two families from opposite sides of the world come together through music, movement, and celebration was a beautiful reminder of what weddings are really about. Rachel and Alistair shared their cake cutting moments surrounded by their guests and headed outside to pop the champagne!
A Day That Felt Like Them
Rachel and Alistair's wedding wasn't defined by elaborate details or grand gestures. Instead, it was defined by connection, tradition and family values.
Connection between two people who have spent the last decade building a life together. Connection between families who travelled from Scotland and Quebec to witness the beginning of an exciting new chapter. And connection between every guest who gathered to celebrate a couple known for their kindness, adventurous spirits, and deep love for one another.
From bilingual vows and Scottish dancing to sunshine that appeared just in time, their wedding day felt authentic to who they are in every possible way. Ending the evening with a sparkler tunnel send off was the icing on the cake of their beautiful Southern Alberta wedding day.
Rachel and Alistair, thank you for trusting me to document such an incredible celebration. It was an honour to witness and preserve these memories for you, and I can't wait to see where your next adventure takes you and Molly.
