From Grad Photos to Wedding Plans | Breann & Axel's Lethbridge Couples Session
Before every session, my goal is simple: create a space where my couples feel completely seen, comfortable, and able to be themselves.
For Breann and Axel, this wasn't our first time together—it was our third.
And honestly, that makes this session even more meaningful.
Breann and Axel made the drive from Taber to Lethbridge for another evening of documenting this chapter of their lives together. Watching their relationship grow over the past few years has been such a privilege, and every time they step in front of my camera, they trust me with another piece of their story.
This Story Started Long Before This Couples Session
My journey with Breann actually began when I photographed her graduation portraits.
That session included her family, who are also deaf, and it gave me the opportunity to learn how I could best communicate and create an experience that felt effortless for everyone involved.
Photography is communication just as much as it is creating beautiful images.
Because Breann is deaf, verbal posing isn't an option. Instead, I use written instructions and visual posing inspiration mounted directly to the back of my camera. Rather than stopping every few moments to type on my phone, she can simply look at my camera, see exactly what I'm asking, and we can keep the session flowing naturally.
It's a small adjustment on my end that makes a huge difference in creating an experience that's relaxed, efficient, and enjoyable.
The result?
Less confusion.
More connection.
And photographs that feel completely authentic.
Why Accessibility Matters in Photography
One of the things I love most about photography is that every couple is different.
Some people need lots of direction.
Some hardly need any.
Some communicate verbally.
Others communicate in entirely different ways.
As a photographer, my job isn't to expect every client to fit into one workflow. It's to adapt my process so every couple feels comfortable enough to simply enjoy each other.
When clients feel understood, they stop thinking about the camera.
That's when the real moments happen.
A Golden Evening in Lethbridge
Lethbridge always offers so many incredible locations for couples sessions, and this evening was no exception.
The soft summer light, quiet pathways, and beautiful prairie landscapes created the perfect backdrop for documenting Breann and Axel's relationship exactly as it is—playful, gentle, affectionate, and completely genuine.
There wasn't a need for elaborate posing or forced smiles.
Just little moments.
Hands finding each other naturally.
Quiet laughs.
Long hugs.
The kind of moments that become your favourites years from now.
Those are always the images I'm chasing.
More Than Clients
After photographing Breann's graduation, her family, and now two couples sessions with Axel, they've become so much more than names in my calendar.
Watching people return year after year is one of the greatest compliments I can receive as a photographer.
It means they trust me.
They feel comfortable with me.
And they know they'll receive photographs that truly reflect who they are.
The Next Chapter
One of the most exciting parts of this session?
Breann and Axel have been planning their engagement.
Hearing that they hope I'll be the one to photograph their wedding is something I don't take lightly.
There is no greater honour than having a couple invite you to document not just one milestone, but their entire story—from graduation, to dating, to engagement, and eventually, their wedding day.
Those relationships are what make this career so incredibly rewarding.
I genuinely can't wait to see what the next chapter looks like for these two.
If it's anything like the last few years, it's going to be beautiful.
