With temperatures reaching 33°C, heavy wildfire smoke blanketing the city, and harsh afternoon sunlight, many couples would assume gorgeous wedding photos weren't possible. Thankfully, that's exactly where years of experience come into play. Knowing how to work with any lighting condition—whether it's bright midday sun, smoky skies, or unpredictable weather—is one of the most valuable skills a wedding photographer can bring to a wedding day.
Getting Ready & A First Look at Henderson Lake Park
The day began with both Pete and Lyndsi getting ready surrounded by their closest family and friends.
Once everyone was ready, we headed to Henderson Lake Park for their first look.
Despite the smoky skies from nearby forest fires, Pete's face lit up the second he saw Lyndsi. It was one of those quiet moments where everything else disappeared. The smoke softened the background while the bright summer sun created beautiful, warm light that made the portraits feel timeless and romantic.
Many photographers avoid photographing in direct sun, but knowing how to position couples, use natural light creatively, and work confidently in every lighting situation means couples never have to sacrifice beautiful images simply because the weather isn't perfect.
Wedding Portraits at Paradise Canyon
After spending time at Henderson Lake Park, we made our way to Paradise Canyon for a completely different look.
One of my favourite things about photographing weddings in Lethbridge is the variety of scenery available within just a few minutes of each other. Paradise Canyon offers breathtaking views of the famous Southern Alberta coulees, adding texture, depth, and dramatic landscapes that contrast beautifully with the lush greenery of Henderson Lake.
Pete and Lyndsi were so relaxed together, making every portrait feel effortless. Whether they were laughing together, soaking in the view, or simply enjoying a quiet moment away from the celebration, their connection made every image feel authentic.
Even with the heat and smoky conditions, they never stopped smiling and embraced every moment of the adventure.
Celebrating at the Italian Canadian Cultural Centre
The evening celebration took place at the Italian Canadian Cultural Centre in Lethbridge, where family and friends gathered to celebrate the newlyweds.
Guests enjoyed an incredible Italian buffet before the evening transitioned into heartfelt speeches, dancing, and plenty of laughter.
The bouquet toss brought out everyone's competitive side, while the dance floor stayed busy late into the evening. Throughout the reception, we also captured plenty of family portraits and candid guest photos so Pete and Lyndsi would have memories of every person who came to celebrate with them.
These moments often become some of the most meaningful images in a wedding gallery years down the road.
A Wedding Filled With Joy
Pete and Lyndsi made every part of the day fun.
No matter how hot it became or how smoky the skies looked, they focused on what truly mattered—celebrating the beginning of their marriage with the people they love most.
