There is something incredibly refreshing about a wedding day that isn't consumed by perfection.
Abe and Amelia's July wedding at Norland Historic Estate was exactly that.
It wasn't about elaborate timelines, endless décor decisions, or months of stressing over tiny details that no one would remember. Instead, it was centered on the two things that matter most: their love for each other and the people they chose to celebrate with.
After just a three-month engagement, they somehow managed to pull together the wedding day they had always envisioned—complete with an incredible vendor team, beautiful weather, and an atmosphere that felt peaceful from beginning to end.
As both their photographer and creator of their wedding highlight film, I had the privilege of documenting every part of their day exactly as it unfolded.
A Short Engagement That Never Felt Rushed
It's easy to assume that planning a wedding in only three months would be overwhelming.
For Abe and Amelia, it was the opposite.
They knew what mattered to them, made thoughtful decisions, trusted the professionals they hired, and refused to let wedding planning become a source of unnecessary stress. Because they weren't chasing perfection, they were able to fully enjoy the journey toward their wedding day. It's proof that you don't need a year—or two—to create an unforgettable celebration.
A Beautiful Summer Day at Norland Historic Estate
July in Southern Alberta delivered exactly what every couple hopes for.
Thirty-degree sunshine.
Blue skies. Warm evening light.
Norland Historic Estate looked absolutely stunning, offering elegant gardens, mature trees, and timeless architecture that gave every photograph a romantic feel.
One of my favourite things about photographing weddings at Norland is how effortlessly the venue balances elegance with intimacy. Every corner feels intentional, while still allowing the focus to remain exactly where it belongs—on the couple.
Choosing a Private First Look
Before guests arrived, Abe and Amelia shared a private first look and private vow readings.
These quiet moments before the ceremony often become some of the most emotional parts of the day.
Without an audience, they were able to take a deep breath, see each other for the first time, exchange a few heartfelt vows, and simply exist together before everything officially began.
It also allowed us to complete many of their family portraits before the ceremony, giving them more freedom to spend time with their guests afterward instead of feeling rushed through a long photography schedule.
An Intimate Ceremony Filled With Meaning
As family and friends gathered beneath the summer sun, Abe and Amelia exchanged vows during a ceremony that felt deeply personal.
Nothing about the day felt performative.
Every hug.
Every smile.
Every glance across the aisle.
Every laugh shared with loved ones.
It all reflected the kind of relationship they've built together—steady, kind, and genuine.
Those are always my favourite weddings to photograph because the emotions don't need to be manufactured.
They're already there.
A Celebration Worth Savoring
Following the ceremony, guests enjoyed an incredible buffet dinner prepared by La Chefs. As always the food was top notch and a hit for every guest who enjoyed a plate or two.
Nothing brings people together quite like great food, and dinner became another opportunity for everyone to slow down, connect, and celebrate the newlyweds.
Between heartfelt conversations, laughter echoing throughout the reception, and the warm summer evening settling over Norland Historic Estate, the entire celebration felt relaxed and joyful.

Every wedding has carefully planned details.
But years from now, those aren't the things most couples remember first.
